Finding Help For Your Troubled Teen

One of the hardest calls a parent can make is to seek help for a child in trouble. Their families are usually in crisis mode and are unsure what the best course of action might be.

“Understandably, it’s not a call any family really wants to make,” says Turning Winds admissions director Eric Loesch. “In most cases, they have explored what seemed less drastic steps or lower levels of care, such as outpatient therapy or maybe even an intensive outpatient program. If they end up calling us that usually means those attempts were unsuccessful.”

Turning Winds works with troubled girls and boys between the ages of 13 and 18, who would benefit from clinical therapy and academic guidance as they transition to adulthood. We are a catalyst for positive change in the lives of people who spend time here and specialize in many of the most common mental health conditions such as low self-esteem, behavioral problems, poor academic performance, various teen disorders which may include ADD/ADHD, depression, substance misuse, and addiction, as well as spectrum and attachment disorders.

“When they are trying to find the program that best addresses their child’s needs they want to make sure they are entrusting their child to a program with a solid track record of positive outcomes,” says Loesch. “My goal is that parents and loved ones leave that call more educated about that decision because often they know they need something more for their child but don’t know what that is, exactly.”

When you call, our experienced admissions team will explain the best treatment options available for your child which may not necessarily include residential treatment at Turning Winds. “If Turning Winds is not the perfect fit for your teen, we’ll point you in the direction of something that’s better suited,” says Loesch. And if Turning Winds is a good fit, Loesch and his team can explain in great detail what our program can do for your teen.

Loesch will always lend a compassionate ear because he knows all too well what families are going through. “My own family has been in their shoes. Many years ago, I went through many months of residential treatment myself. I know the emotions that come with that. I had many discussions with my own family about the decision they had to make—one that I did not support at the time. My family did what was in my best interest and I only realized later what a great gift that was. That’s how I can handle calls with families with great compassion.”

At Turning Winds the clinical services are unique in that we extend treatment beyond the confines of four walls. We have taken the best elements of care from wilderness therapy, therapeutic boarding schools, and inpatient treatment to create a one-of-a-kind residential treatment center.

Over the past two decades, Turning Winds has been able to help many families overcome what seemed impossible odds. Our mission is to rescue teens from crisis situations, renew their belief in their own potential, reunite them with their families, and put them on a sustainable path to success. Contact us online for more information, or call us at 800-845-1380. If your call isn’t answered personally, one of us will get back to you as soon as possible.
