How To Find The Best Teen Treatment

Your Goal

There are no shortcuts to long-term success and so your goal and mission is to provide your teen with the best possible treatment care plan that will offer a life-long impact and life-long change. Let’s look at three very important factors when picking the best behavioral and mental health treatment center.

Location, Location, Location

Location actually matters and in many cases sending your teen to a rehabilitation program that is out-of-state can provide amazing health benefits to their healing and recovery. The wilderness for example, is a wonderful tool in allowing the mind, body, and spirit to heal. A new location can provide a new fresh perspective, experiences, and separation from old people, places, and things that may have been holding your teen back from succeeding.

Length of Stay

We here at Turning Winds understand that sending your child away for any length of time can be emotional and anxiety provoking, but the longer your child’s care is the better chance they have at changing and going on to live life to their fullest potential. Consider this an investment into your teen’s future and just like any investment, you want to do your research and make the best choice. We suggest at least a 90 day stay, but if you are able to do 6-12 months, that would be best. The more time they are able to have to heal, recover, and work on their issues, the better chance they have at staying on track as they venture into adulthood. Their struggles with mental and behavioral health issues did not start over night and so it would be unfair to cut their treatment short and expect them to change in only a few weeks or months for the better. Giving them the chance at a full healing and recovery is the best investment and gift you could ever give your child.

Insurance and Cost

While no parent wants to let finances dictate their decision, when it comes to the treatment of their teen it is a factor that has to be addressed. Health insurance may be able to offset some costs, but you may still have to pay some out-of-pocket expenses for the best care. A good teen treatment program should be able to assist you in helping explain your insurance coverage and cost of care you are liable for as part of their admissions process. Cost of treatment may seem like an impossible feat and out of reach at first, but it doesn’t have to be and there  are resources and opportunities you can explore. Allow the professionals to walk you through the process and find a solution.
