Adolescents may be blowing off school, acting defiant or disrespectful, experimenting with illegal substances or alcohol, or exhibiting signs of mental or emotional distress. As frustrating as these behaviors are, it does not mean your teen is bad or beyond help. Struggling teens are usually dealing with a mental, emotional, or behavioral issue they are unable to handle on their own.
Punishments and consequences will not help at this point, and only further harm your relationship.
