How To Find The Best Teen Treatment

Your Goal

Your goal is to have a treatment plan that will help your teens behavioral, mental, and emotional health. The ultimate goal is to build a strong foundation that will foster happiness, healthy decisions, purpose, and long-term success. It is important to find a teen treatment center that not only supports that plan, but successfully achieves it.

Location, Location, Location

It can feel overwhelming when you start the search for a teen rehab center and many parents may think that keeping their child home is the best choice, but in our experience it can sometimes be detrimental to their overall care. Removing your teen from a space where there are negative environmental factors including negative peers influences, unhealthy school environment, or even, and often tough to admit, an unhealthy home  environment can have a critical impact on their long-term recovery. We sympathize with your struggle: sending your kid to an out-state program can be anxiety provoking, but we want to encourage you to look at the benefits this could bring to your child’s care and impact on their overall future. Try looking it as a great educational, emotional, mental, and physical wellness program that will help build not only your teen’s self-esteem, but also their perspective and outlook on life and help them to see how their actions have been hurting themselves and others. A new location that provides resources for them to learn new things, grow, heal, and explore new talents and hobbies could be the very thing that changes their future for the better.

Length of Stay

There are many kinds of teen rehab and treatment programs that you could choose from; there are outpatient programs such as Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) which are amazing for teens that are stepping down from an inpatient program, but in many cases should not be used as the first step in treatment for your child if you want them to succeed long-term. We at Turning Winds recommend a program that is anywhere from 3 months to a full year. The reason we suggest this is because we have seen countless successes among the kiddos we have worked with; many were previously in short term residential programs and struggled upon returning home and regressed before the family ultimately decided to send to a long-term program. If you send your loved one away to a program that is too short, there is great risk the child will not fully absorb, develop, and implement the necessary skills and tools and you are likely to end up having to repeat the same stressful, emotional, challenging process to find another program in hopes it will help. It’s best to start off with an aggressive approach to their care from the beginning so you can achieve true success. What your teen is going through is just as important as their physical wellbeing so we investing in critical care during this complicated time in their life.

Insurance and Cost

You may have an insurance plan that will cover some of the cost of treatment, so it is critical to understand what coverage your policy has, specifically for your dependent, son, or daughter. Turning Winds will help parents navigate not just insurance coverage, but we will advocate for the best care while they are with us. In addition, there are other ways for your family to navigate out-of-pocket costs and any quality, respectable treatment program should help provide resources so you can support the best care. We want to invite you to look at the cost like an investment into your teen’s mental health and their future.
