How To Find The Best Teen Treatment

Your Goal

Help; it’s that simple. Your goal is to find help so your loved one does not continue to head down the path of destruction, pain, and misery they are currently walking but rather can turn their life around. You want to help your child, in fact you have likely been trying every way possible and exhausting all resources to help your child, but nothing has worked and you don’t know where to turn. You need help to help your loved one; we want to help you. We want to offer our direction and support you as you search for the best care for your loved one.

Location, Location, Location

It is natural to favor a treatment program that is close to home; you can visit, be involved, and rest easy knowing your loved one is close. We understand this thinking, but urge you not to limit your child’s care. Do not let location be the primary criteria for choosing a program. Rather, pick the best quality program for your child and often times that means going out of state. In addition, out of state care provides a number of benefits to both the child and the family. First, the family and the child need a break from each other; the home has become unhealthy and the family relationships along with it. Separation allows each party to breathe and focus on themselves which in turn will help make for healthier relationship moving forward. Second, not only has the family dynamic itself become unhealthy, but likely so too has the home and perhaps the child’s school, friendships/peer group, etc. Your loved one needs to get away from negative factors; social media, video games, drugs/alcohol, unsupportive friends… removing all the distractions and dangers ensures greater success for the child. They can come to a new place, in a new environment and focus on themselves and getting well. Consider too this, a new environment offers a fresh perspective and the opportunity to try new things, develop new habits, and forge a new outlook on life. By expanding your search you not only increase your options for the best quality of treatment, but afford your child options where they can gain a new perspective, are provided the chance to learn new things, and can explore and experience; hiking, skiing, snowboarding, camping, horseback riding, and more. Their treatment experience should be well-rounded and offer therapeutic care, grade recovery, and fun and challenging activities that spark new interests and hobbies and aid in the healing process.

Length of Stay

Just because you see that there are 30 days treatment programs, and in many cases insurance will cover all or the majority of costs for such a program, does not mean that these short-term programs are best option of care for your teen. In most cases we recommend your child attend a therapeutic teen treatment program that provides at least 3 months to upwards of a year of care. Their struggles and battles have developed and progressed over the span of months, most likely years. Their recovery and return to good health will in turn take time. In our experience, it isn’t until 2-3 months into a program that a child really starts to buy in the process. It takes a lot of work to get here and certainly is a huge turning point but there is still a lot of work to be done thereafter. The reality is that the longer they have to work on their behavioral and mental health the better chance they have at long-term recovery and in turn living their best life; the life you so desperately want for them and the future they deserve.

Insurance and Cost

Quality treatment is not free and in fact cost of quality care can be quite expensive leaving parents and families to wonder how on earth they are going to be able to afford care. Do not let your financial fear rob you and your loved one from getting the necessary help, affording care might be more possible than you first anticipate. Did you know private health insurance can drastically help offset cost of such care? It is okay if you know little or nothing about your insurance coverage and what it would cover, the truth is most people don’t. Once you’ve done your research and found a program you believe would be a great fit for your child give them a call and have your insurance card ready. A quality and reputable therapeutic teen treatment program should be able to help guide you through the cost of care process – verifying your insurance coverage while also explaining your potential out of pocket costs. Do not base the care of your child on cost alone. If you are still feeling overwhelmed, we here at Turning Winds can help find out if your healthcare plan will cover any of our treatment. After your insurance plan is reviewed, then we can discuss what you will owe and ways you can help pay for care, or provide resources to another program that your insurance could work with. Your child’s treatment should be considered an investment into their health and future, so let us help you get the best care. Call now at 800-845-1380.
