Teens are in a unique place, caught between childhood and becoming adults. Part of this process involves asserting their independence while taking on new responsibilities. Yet teens do not have a fully formed frontal lobe to think through consequences and long-term effects of their choices. You, as a parent, want to help your teen through this transition. But it is hard to know how, especially when your adolescent is making dangerous or destructive choices. If your teen is acting out in a manner or degree that goes beyond normal teen rebellion, your adolescent is most likely experiencing some type of distress.
