How To Find The Best Teen Treatment

Your Goal

Your goal is to help your child heal and recover from behavioral and mental health issues. In order to do this, it is crucial your teen to attend a treatment program that will support this goal; a program that provides quality care and has a proven track record of successfully helping kids recover and reunite with their families.

Location, Location, Location

Location is paramount when deciding on a treatment program. In many cases, going to a rehab center close to home can actually be more harmful than helpful in the long run. Parents whose children have later attended our program here at Turning Winds after their first efforts failed regularly share that they found being close to home only fostered unhealthy relationships with negative peer influences, provided a greater risk for running away, and didn’t allow time for the family unit to also heal and take a break from the chaos that had become the new normal. Going to a teen treatment program out-of-state will offer a fresh new perspective on life which coincides with the support of their overall recovery and health.

Length of Stay

Many parents have been told that 30 days is enough time to treat their son or daughter, but we strongly suggest longer care simply because it isn’t enough time to truly work on all their issues so that they can stay healed long after they leave treatment. Maybe changing a bad habit is possible in just 30 days, but we aren’t talking about simply one issue here, we are talking about the need for a true transformation where your child becomes the best version of his/her self so that they might go on to live a life full of hope, purpose, success, and happiness. If your teen was sick with a life threatening illness you wouldn’t choose the cheapest, shortest, most convenient treatment. Rather, you would fight and advocate to find the best possible treatment out there. You need to think of their care right now in the same light. Your teen is an amazing young person who not only deserves the opportunity to heal and recover, but also has the chance to become the best version of themselves and live up to their truest potential.

Insurance and Cost

It is beneficial to figure out what kind coverage your insurance plan provides for mental, behavioral, and substance abuse issues before you try to figure out the finances of care. Some private and commercial insurance policies could cover some of the treatment costs, but you will want to make sure you truly advocate for your teen and their treatment. We encourage parents to be honest and open with what is going on, because if you downplay it, you could be missing out on additional coverage. We know this can be a difficult, overwhelming, and in some cases shameful time, but we here at Turning Winds are here to help. If you need us to help guide you through the process including insurance and what coverage is available, please feel free to reach out to us for more information. We want you to have a full understanding of cost of care so you do not let pre-conceived notions dictate the best care for your teen. They deserve the best care so that they can be the confident, happy, and loving kid they once were.
