Turning Winds North Carolina Connections

North Carolina teens who are struggling with any kind of mental and behavioral health disorders need and deserve the opportunity for life-long recovery. We here at Turning Winds have treated thousands of kids since 2002 and as a leading teen mental and behavioral health treatment center, we want to not only equip you and your family with the information and resources to help your teen, but provide you with a real long-term solution.

How To Find The Best Teen Treatment

Your Goal

If you landed on this page it is because you are searching for a way to help your child address the issues they are struggling with before it is too late. You want them to heal and recover and learn new, healthier coping mechanisms, skills, and habits so that they might live a life full of joy and success. We are going to provide you with some suggestions to help get you there.

Location, Location, Location

Many parents favor enrolling their teen in a treatment center that is located near home under the belief system that they need to be able to regularly visit, that the home area is comfortable, among many other reasons; in many cases this can actually cause more harm than good. We strongly suggest exploring treatment facilities outside of your home area and even your home state. Seek the best program; licensed and accredited, certified, quality staff, strong clinical team, providing a plethora of opportunities for your child to heal, learn, and grow. Your search is about finding the best help within your power and abilities for your loved one, don’t restrict yourself from options because of location and distance. By expanding your search you not only increase options for quality care, but by sending your child to a different area it allows them to get away from unhealthy influences and distraction and affords them the chance to reset, look internally, and change. Allowing your child to go out-of-state for treatment could be the very thing that helps save their life.

Length of Stay

As you research you will find there are a variety of programs offering different lengths of stay. You are likely to come across a number of short-term programs, perhaps the most common of all treatment programs, lasting only 30-60 days and think that is enough time to help your teen. We strongly urge you to explore programs that offer a longer length of stay, from 3 months to upwards of a full year. We here at Turning Winds have discovered through our years of treating thousands of adolescents that a longer length of stay decreases the chance of relapse or regression back to old behaviors and bad habits. The longer they are able to work on any underlying issues that have been holding them back from their truest potential, the greater the opportunity they have at healing and living the life they were meant live and have the future you dream of for them. Your child deserves the absolute best care so that they obtain the best outcome.

Insurance and Cost

Insurance and cost can cause a lot of anxiety for families during their search for treatment. Your child’s struggles have bought great stress, tension, suffering; it can feel like the world is closing in and there is no hope. We are here to help you take it step-by-step. After finding a quality program you feel could be a good fit we urge you to reach out to them and of course ask your questions to help you with your decision, but be sure to discuss health insurance coverage and cost. A reputable program should have an admissions staff who can help guide you through the cost of care process – verifying your insurance coverage and explaining the benefits and potential out of pocket costs. If you are still feeling overwhelmed, we here at Turning Winds can help find out if your healthcare plan will cover any part of treatment. After insurance coverage is looked over, then you can discuss what you will owe and ways you can help pay for care. This is an investment into your child’s health and future and should be treated as such. Our lines are open 24/7, can now at 800-845-1380.

Equine Therapy – Healing With Horses

Today we got to experience the healing power of the horse. The students have been learning to properly lead, groom and care for these animals. Much like their teenage handlers, horses can be stubborn and reluctant to follow orders. As our students learn to get along and work with the horses they will gain emotional awareness, empathy, flexibility, self-control, assertiveness and problem-solving skills. Horses mirror the behavior of their handlers giving students the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their own emotions and body language, which helps them to have better interpersonal relationships and impulse control.

TWAI Girls Having the Glacier Park Experience

Some of our girls went on a recent excursion to Glacier National Park. The 3 hour drive to the park was filled with laughter and loud singing as they took turns playing DJ with their favorite music. Big horn sheep came out to greet them on Going-To-The-Sun Road and the aspen and larch trees were adorned in their fall yellow leaves. Everyone was truly amazed at how beautiful everything was while driving through West Glacier to their trailhead destination in Logan Pass. The round trip hike to Hidden Lake Overlook is 2.7 miles with a peak trail elevation of 7152 feet. The girls got to joke around, relax and enjoy the great Montana wilderness. After the long day they capped the trip off with burritos for dinner in Kalispell.
