We here at Turning Winds want to help guide you through the process so that you can get the best help for your loved one.

How To Find The Best Teen Treatment

Your Goal

When you have a clear goal in mind, it can be easier to make the best decision. Your goal is simple, you want to get your teen help before it is too late. We are going to over some important key components to getting that help and having it last long-term. When searching for the best teen treatment program you will want to take into consideration three main questions: 1) Where is the teen treatment program located and how does this benefit my child’s recovery, 2) how long will my child be in treatment for, and 3) how much will this cost? You already know that you want a program that genuinely cares and can provide the best treatment, but now you need to focus on the other details that will majorly impact your decision and thus your loved one’s chance at success.

Location, Location, Location

You might think keeping your teen close to home is the best option, but we invite you to open your mind to having your adolescent attend a program away from home and out-of-state. We know the idea of sending your kid away can be anxiety provoking for parents, but it can be a crucial factor and one of the best decisions to help change your child’s life for the better. We here at Turning Winds have witnessed hundreds of miracles; children from all over the US and even internationally who came to treatment with us here on our gorgeous 150 acres of lush green land and breath-taking views in the Rocky Mountains of Montana. Some of the benefits of going out-of-state include removing the teen from an unhealthy environment, reducing risk of a child running away, helping foster new experiences which can change perspective, and providing a safe space without distraction where your child can focus on getting the help they need. Your teen is struggling and they deserve the best opportunity to recover long-term.

Length of Stay

Now that we have gone over some of the health benefits of going out-of-state for treatment for your teen, we need to focus on how long their treatment should be in order to provide the best care and outcome possible. In many cases, 30 days is just not enough time, so any program you send your child to should offer at least a 3 month or longer option. We have been helping teens and their families since 2002 and have found from our experience working with hundreds of kiddos that the longer the child has the opportunity to work, change, grow, and heal, the better chance they have at life-long success.

Insurance and Cost

The cost of treatment can seem overwhelming and nearly impossible to afford, but we are here to help guide you through the insurance and cost process. In some cases, insurance will cover at least part of the cost of treatment. The first step is to determine what type of insurance you have and what coverage it includes. Any teen treatment program that you decide on should provide the help and services of navigating your insurance coverage and help advocate for your teens care. They should also provide ideas or resources on how to pay for any out-of-pocket costs for treatment. Remember, this is your child’s life and so their health and care should not be solely determined by cost especially without exploring and exhausting every option. This is an investment into their future and they are worth every penny.

Equine Therapy – Healing With Horses

Today we got to experience the healing power of the horse. The students have been learning to properly lead, groom and care for these animals. Much like their teenage handlers, horses can be stubborn and reluctant to follow orders. As our students learn to get along and work with the horses they will gain emotional awareness, empathy, flexibility, self-control, assertiveness and problem-solving skills. Horses mirror the behavior of their handlers giving students the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their own emotions and body language, which helps them to have better interpersonal relationships and impulse control.

TWAI Girls Having the Glacier Park Experience

Some of our girls went on a recent excursion to Glacier National Park. The 3 hour drive to the park was filled with laughter and loud singing as they took turns playing DJ with their favorite music. Big horn sheep came out to greet them on Going-To-The-Sun Road and the aspen and larch trees were adorned in their fall yellow leaves. Everyone was truly amazed at how beautiful everything was while driving through West Glacier to their trailhead destination in Logan Pass. The round trip hike to Hidden Lake Overlook is 2.7 miles with a peak trail elevation of 7152 feet. The girls got to joke around, relax and enjoy the great Montana wilderness. After the long day they capped the trip off with burritos for dinner in Kalispell.
