Turning Winds New Jersey Connections

A parent’s greatest nightmare is watching their child struggle and knowing that despite their best efforts, they simply can not fix the problem. We here at Turning Winds not on-ly understand this nightmare, but have been helping teens heal and families heal, re-cover, and rebuild since 2002. We want to help provide you with information and re-sources so that you can find the best professional help for your loved one.

How To Find The Best Teen Treatment

Your Goal

Whether your child is struggling with mental, behavioral, and/or substance abuse is-sues, a quality treatment program should be able to help in all these areas. Recovery is a process and takes time; time to heal from any mental health issues or traumas, time to break bad habits and develop new, healthy ones, and time to build up self-worth and self-esteem and grow into a productive and contributing member of society. The prima-ry goal in finding a treatment program for your loved one is to find a program that allows them to build a strong, solid foundation with good core morals and beliefs upon which they can further develop and live to their truest potential a life filled with happiness and success.

Location, Location, Location

Turning Winds has helped teens and their families from all over the country and we have found that out-of-state treatment programs offer not only a new and fresh per-spective, but the opportunity to escape from unhealthy influences and negative trig-gers while also allowing your child the chance to explore and develop new talents and skills that they might never have known they had the potential for. The outdoors can be very healing for the mind, body, and spirit so when looking for a teen rehab center, we suggest you look for one that offers outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, camping, and more. Turning Winds campus is located on 150 acres in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Montana and we have seen first-hand what nature has done for these kiddos and their families; we have watched and witness miracles all around us. We know that sending your child away out-of-state can be unsettling and having your child out of your home and under your day to day care can leave you feeling quite emotional, but we want you to look it is as a real opportunity for your loved one to not only recover, but grow while learning new talents, discovering new activities, and meeting new people all while discovering their true self and forging their true identity that will allow them to live a life full of purpose, joy, and success.

Length of Stay

From our years of experience, we suggest a teen treatment center that provides a minimum stay of 3 months. Anything less than 90 days could actually be a disservice your loved one’s care long-term. The longer the child has the opportunity to work on themselves, develop new and healthy habits, build up their self-esteem, and rebuild their grades in school, the better chance they have at continuing this positive behavior and lifestyle once they leave treatment.

Insurance and Cost

Some insurance companies will pay for part of the care, but may not pay for full cover-age. It is important to locate a program that can help you navigate insurance coverage, provide information and resources on how to fund quality care, and advocate for the best care for your child. Some insurance programs may only pay for 1-3 months leav-ing many parents to feel that is all they can do for their child; there are other ways to extend care and sometimes that means a family making the financial sacrifice to cover out of pocket costs to extend their child’s stay and get the best help. While a sacrifice indeed, this needs to be looked at as an investment into your teen’s life; many families have shared with us that their child’s future and life is hanging in the balance.

Equine Therapy – Healing With Horses

Today we got to experience the healing power of the horse. The students have been learning to properly lead, groom and care for these animals. Much like their teenage handlers, horses can be stubborn and reluctant to follow orders. As our students learn to get along and work with the horses they will gain emotional awareness, empathy, flexibility, self-control, assertiveness and problem-solving skills. Horses mirror the behavior of their handlers giving students the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their own emotions and body language, which helps them to have better interpersonal relationships and impulse control.

TWAI Girls Having the Glacier Park Experience

Some of our girls went on a recent excursion to Glacier National Park. The 3 hour drive to the park was filled with laughter and loud singing as they took turns playing DJ with their favorite music. Big horn sheep came out to greet them on Going-To-The-Sun Road and the aspen and larch trees were adorned in their fall yellow leaves. Everyone was truly amazed at how beautiful everything was while driving through West Glacier to their trailhead destination in Logan Pass. The round trip hike to Hidden Lake Overlook is 2.7 miles with a peak trail elevation of 7152 feet. The girls got to joke around, relax and enjoy the great Montana wilderness. After the long day they capped the trip off with burritos for dinner in Kalispell.
