Welcome to Turning Winds: Where Every Teen Is Family

At Turning Winds, a premier residential treatment center for teens, we are dedicated to forging lifelong relationships and healing teens. To us, you’re more than just a client. Our model of care, renowned for its effective therapeutic support, mirrors a functional family system. This system is integral to our teen residential treatment program. From the beginning, embodying the essence of family has been a cornerstone of the Turning Winds approach to healing.

Immerse yourself in the serenity that awaits your teen once they arrive at Turning Winds. Take our virtual tour now and envision the transformative healing journey where your teen will forge lifelong relationships and build a better future.

Our staff, experts in providing therapeutic support for teens, are carefully selected based on their ability to foster a home-like, non-institutional atmosphere, which is crucial in our family system approach to teen treatment.

Real Connections, Lasting Impact: Alumni Thriving in Life After Care

“Former students reaching out to us is actually quite common,” says chief operations officer Carl Baisden. “It usually starts with a text like ‘I’m struggling.’ and they want to know if I have a minute to check in with them.”

Many alumni, having transformed their lives through our teen residential treatment, are so positively impacted and had such a life-transforming experience that they wish to to give back in return. “A young woman from Texas who left here four years ago called to let us know that she is finishing college and she invited us to her graduation.

She wants to become a therapist and wants to know whether she can do an internship with Turning Winds. Those kinds of phone calls are the icing on the cake for what we do,” says Baisden. “It means a relationship with us is still meaningful for them.”

In September, program director Enoch Stump even went to the wedding of a Turning Winds alumnus. The man, now in his thirties, wanted Stump to be there in Las Vegas for this important life event. “He thinks of Turning Winds as family,” says Stump. “Many of our alumni feel that way. It was a great honor for me to be invited to his wedding and see how much he has turned his life around.”

Relational Treatment Model: A Foundation for Success

Turning Winds staff love to see their alumni thrive and be successful in life. And if there are setbacks, they always have somebody they can call. “If they get stuck, they turn to the people they trust and the people they have connections with. This is precisely why we have a relational treatment model. Without those relationships, those kids would not reach out to us,” says Carl Baisden.

“We had the good fortune to stay in touch with many of our kids over the last 20 years. Many also come back to visit and our owners and directors look them up when we’re traveling. Every time I travel for work, I look up who lives in the area to get in touch, have lunch, and re-establish that connection.”

Aftercare: Continuing the Journey Beyond Turning Winds

At Turning Winds, our commitment to each teen’s journey doesn’t end at discharge. Our aftercare program is designed to ensure that the progress made during their stay with us is sustained and built upon in their everyday lives.

A Seamless Transition to Everyday Life

Our aftercare approach focuses on a seamless transition from the therapeutic environment to everyday life. We understand that the real challenge often begins when our teens return to their regular routines. That’s why our aftercare program is tailored to support them in applying the skills and insights they’ve gained to real-world situations.

We provide ongoing support and guidance to our alumni. This includes regular check-ins, access to counseling sessions, and a supportive network of peers and mentors. Our team remains a touchstone for our graduates, offering advice, encouragement, and a listening ear when needed.

A Lifelong Extended Family

Our alumni are always part of the Turning Winds family. We celebrate their successes, provide support during challenges, and offer opportunities for them to stay connected with the community they’ve helped to build. This enduring bond is a testament to the lasting impact of the Turning Winds experience.
