Turning Winds' Residential Treatment Facility in Beautiful Montana

As a parent, it can be heart-wrenching to send your child away to a therapeutic boarding school or residential treatment center when he or she is suffering. Our instincts tell us to pull them closer and protect them, but we know from experience that parental love isn’t always enough. Sometimes a child needs a change of environment to get away from negative influences, break old habits, and gain perspective. For many teens, a new place provides the opportunity for a new start. Turning Winds provides a safe, nurturing refuge when home is no longer the best place for your child.

We know that nothing is more important to you than the wellbeing of your child. Contact us online or call us at 800-845-1380 to begin the process of getting the help your teen needs. We will be happy to help you plan a visit to our facility so you can feel good about entrusting your child to our care.

A Safe Environment

For many parents, the most important question is “Can I trust that my child will be treated well and kept safe here?” The best way to find the answer to this question is to pay us a visit. You’ll see that our facility is beautiful, inviting, peaceful, and comfortable. Unlike some therapeutic boarding schools in Montana, Turning Winds is a family-run, family-oriented center. We are dedicated to feeling like a home, not a prison or a hospital. You’ll find the staff here to be compassionate and caring, with the strength, training, and experience to support and redirect troubled teens.

Our facility is designed to house up to 45 students at one time. With approximately 30 employees, we have an excellent staff-to-student ratio, which ensures that no one “falls through the cracks.”

We employ fully credentialed teachers, and all of our staff must pass thorough background checks. We also require all of our employees to complete extensive, ongoing training as a condition of employment.

We employ a registered nurse to care for our students’ health, and to administer medication to those students who require it. We also have a psychiatrist who works with our students who are on medication, and monitors their dosage and needs on a monthly basis.

What a change and all for the good! It was heartening to see a smile on (my daughter’s) face, and just for the record, she went out of her way to tell me that she felt Turning Winds was ’her home’ — not anything like an institution. I was especially happy to hear that because that was what I personally was hoping for. I have never wanted her to feel that we placed her in an institution.

Turning Winds is located in beautiful northwestern Troy, Montana. Our facilities are nestled in the Purcell Mountains on more than 150 acres. The south fork of the Yaak River runs through the entire property and is a great location for fishing and swimming in the summer. Outdoor activities are easily accessible right from our back door.

The outdoors is an essential component of our therapeutic program, and our pristine location is one of the reasons for our success. We believe in and teach the principles of “leave no trace” when it comes to our interactions with nature. We are proud of the fact that our facility operates almost exclusively on solar power.

The closest major airport is in Spokane, Washington. From there, Turning Winds is about a 3½ hour drive. We accept students from throughout the U.S. and the world.

If other solutions have failed, a residential program may save your child and your family. Contact us online today or call us at (800) 845-1380 and start the process of real, lasting change.
