Should I give my son/daughter one more chance?

That should depend on how long he/she has been getting in trouble, or what kind of trouble he/she is currently getting into. Because we know human behavior so well we know that once a path is chosen it is usually followed unless some sort of intervention happens. It is in our nature to give people "one more chance," but at some point we have to recognize that all of the "one more chances" are enabling a troubled teen to continue down a path that gets more difficult every day to escape from. In a way we can be likened unto a tree. When the tree is young it is very pliable. It can be moved pretty much in any direction. The older and bigger it gets, the less malleable it becomes. Turning Winds is able to work with any teen in any stage of life. Call now to speak to an admissions counselor or contact us to consider your child's need for placement. 1-800-845-1380

What are the chances my child will change?

The probability your child will change is very great. We are very good at working with teens and providing an environment where any teen has optimal chances for success. While it is ultimately up to the child to make the decision to change, our program provides a significant pull from the strong peer culture and experienced staff we have in helping to facilitate change as quickly as possible. Turning Winds has a very good success rate. While we can't give a number or a percentage, we can say that most of the students who complete the program have been successful.

Will my child ever forgive me?

Most of our students initially don't want to be at Turning Winds Academic Institute, even though it is more than a bootcamp for troubled teens. There may certainly be resentment at first but in most cases it will dissipate rather quickly. We have never had a student who has not let go negative feelings being held as a result of being sent to Turning Winds Academic Institute.

Almost in every case when a teen graduates from the orientation phase of Turning Winds there are wet eyes as they see their parents for the first time. Also, it is very common to see our students, as they are addressing their parents during their graduation, look at their parents with tear filled eyes and thank them for saving their life. That is a moment that every parent can look forward to with great anticipation.

"I don't know if I can send my child away because I won't be able to stand not having him/her right here with me."

This is a normal way to think. If we look at this from another prospective we might be able to view this separation a little differently. It should be more like, "I must send my child away to have more time with him/her in the future." Most parents are in the position where their child has become very distant from them. The further a troubled teen goes down the road of destruction the more distant he/she will get from the family. The idea is to change the road that they are on so they will be back with the family traveling in the same direction to ensure a long lasting relationship.

Is my son/daughter with good people?

Our staff is amongst the best in the industry. We do thorough background checks on all of our employees. All of our staff must go through extensive training each year to retain employment at Turning Winds. We would not allow any of our employees to be with your son/daughter who we personally would not feel comfortable watching our own children.

Isn't there a program closer to where I live?

We provide success to each family we serve. We help return to families a child who is once again stable; a child who was lost and now is found. The most important thing that should be considered when looking to place a teen out of the home is what the program has to offer in terms of helping the child, not necessarily the program location.

What makes Turning Winds different from other programs out there?

How long is the Program?

The average length of stay is about 12 months. Although that is the average, the length of stay will vary for each teen we help. Some of our students go home after 10 months and do very well, while every now and then it could take up to 18 months for other teens to go home and be in a good enough space to be successful. The easiest way to determine the amount of time it will take to change a teen is to consider the amount of time they have been going in the wrong direction; while understanding the longer one travels in the wrong direction, the longer it is going to take to get him/her back on track.

What is the cost of Turning Winds Academic Institute?
