What Questions Should You Ask a Teen Mental Health Provider?

Every parent wants to ensure their child is in the best hands when seeking mental health treatment. That’s why it’s essential to ask the right questions to help you make an informed decision:

Is your program certified or accredited by recognized organizations?

Yes. Turning Winds holds The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Behavioral Health Care and Human Services,  reflecting adherence to rigorous standards for care quality and safety. Our on-campus school is accredited by Cognia; academics meet research-based standards, and credits earned here transfer to high schools and universities nationwide.

Yes. We work with most major insurers as an out-of-network provider and offer a fast, confidential insurance verification process. Turning Winds is in-network with PacificSource, and we also work with payer networks such as First Choice Health Network and Allegiance. Mental Health Treatment at Turning Winds

Adolescence brings rapid growth and change, and for some teens, that journey is complicated by anxiety, depression, trauma, or behavioral challenges that affect home, school, and friendships. As a teen mental health treatment center, our focus is long-term change: practical coping tools, steadier routines, stronger relationships, and restored confidence; backed by a clear aftercare plan so progress carries home, into school, and into everyday life. This work is guided by our Five Pillars of Change:

  • Character and Leadership Development
  • Health and Wellness
  • Experiential Education
  • Evidence-based Clinical Care
  • Academic Engagement

Together, these pillars form a clear, repeatable framework that turns therapeutic insights into everyday habits from admission through aftercare.

Clinical Services & Levels of Care

  • Residential Program (24/7): Calm, predictable community with daily skills groups, individual therapy, supervised study periods, recreation, and outdoor time. Each teen follows a personalized plan with clear goals, safety planning, family sessions, and medical/psychiatric oversight to build stable routines and healthy coping.
  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): Five days a week, daytime care for teens who need intensive support while living at home. The schedule blends therapy, skills practice, academic blocks, and medication follow-ups as needed. Families receive coaching and a step-down plan to IOP or outpatient care.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): Several sessions per week, typically 3 to 4 hours per day, so teens can keep up with school and activities while continuing structured treatment. Focus areas include relapse-prevention skills, emotion regulation, executive-function supports, and family communication tools to sustain progress and promote independence.
