While moving through our specialized program, those recovering from substance abuse will experience growth through equine therapy, group hikes, and 12-step discussion, as well as through our highly effective parental participation activities, ie. parental workshops and family counseling sessions.

While much of the program is structured around therapeutic restoration, we would also like parents to know that Turning Winds is dedicated to academics. 

Turning Winds is accredited by two of the most recognized respected secondary academic accrediting bodies in the United States. We are fully accredited by Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC). Our teen boarding school accepts children between the ages of 13 and 18. Turning Winds, a specialty private boarding school, can accept enrollment of approximately 45 students. The entire program averages approximately 12 months.

In addition to providing the ability to both therapeutically heal and learn throughout their stay, troubled teens from Montana will also enjoy extracurricular activities, such as playing sports and exploring the beautiful outdoors.

Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services: Addictive & Mental Disorders Division - The mission of the AMDD of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services is to execute and advance a suitable statewide method of treatment, prevention, recovery, and care for struggling adolescent boys and girls and young adults of Montana; wrestling with mental disorders or pain medication abuse/addiction issues. By contracting with Montana's behavioral health providers, AMDD administers mental health and pain medication abuse/addiction services to teenage boys and girls and young adults in the community.

National Alliance on Mental Illness Montana (NAMI) - NAMI Montana is the local Montana chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Founded over 35 years ago, NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots partnership for struggling teenage boys and girls and young adults (and their families) wrestling with mental illnesses. With over one thousand regional alliances across the nation, NAMI now has affiliates in every state. NAMI has branches located in Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Havre, Helena, Kalispell, Livingston, Lewistown, and Missoula. NAMI Montana now has over four hundred affiliates, and the number is growing! NAMI Montana educates, offers assistance, and advocates for at-risk adolescent boys and girls and young adults and their families in Montana; wrestling with severe mental illnesses. This is accomplished by not only offering help to concerned families; to start up local support, but also by educating the public to overcome the stigmas linked to mental illness.
