Group Homes for Teens North Carolina NC

As a premier therapeutic program for struggling adolescents from North Carolina, Turning Winds provides valued assistance to teenagers experiencing clinical depression, adoption (attachment disorder), and/or academic failure.

While the greatest strides in the areas of therapy, treatment, and long-term rehabilitation are known to be made in therapeutic group homes for teens, there can be some confusion as to what a group home is. In the past, group homes in North Carolina were associated primarily with individuals may have had psychiatric disorders or disabilities, or were referred to as "shelters" for those who were displaced for various reasons. In essence, they were a form of modified assisted living when individuals could not wholly care for themselves. In present times, however, this is not the case.

The term group home has grown to encompass a broader spectrum of assisted living. It now includes therapeutic programs and treatment centers that provide individualized restoration plans for teenagers who struggle with substance abuse (including marijuana), pain medication abuse/addiction, and various co-occurring issues, with an additional focus on aspects of aftercare to counsel troubled teens with healing, and find balance and prepare themselves for the real world.

Girls Group Home

While a girls group home is a great option when seeking treatment for struggling adolescents in North Carolina, but when it comes to comprehensive, successful results, co-ed facilities are the preferred choice. Throughout the treatment process, exposure to one’s peers on a day to day basis can re-enforce any progress made in therapy, and also provides a healthy, supportive environment for teens to learn to interact with one another in a positive manner.

While group homes do aid in the restoration process by giving a safe place for teenagers to get counsel for their pain medication abuse/addiction, substance abuse (including marijuana) or mental health trials, co-ed facilities in particular are more advantageous when it comes to academics and personal development.

Recent research has shown that even as young as elementary school, children benefit from a co-ed learning environment – and these benefits are magnified when it comes to teenagers. In fact, private or independent facilities that offer a co-ed program not only achieve better academic results, but their social, critical thinking, and communication skills as bolstered as well. Additionally, teens of both sexes can learn from each other socially, and the diversity experienced not only better reflects society, but it helps those in recovery to avoid developing biases toward gender stereotyping.

At Turning Winds, we know treatment is not limited to substance abuse (including marijuana) or mental health issues alone. Adolescence is a difficult time, and ensuring our students are strong and well-prepared to assimilate successfully into the real world is part of our goal. We at Turning Winds know that a co-ed group home will not only help fortify the foundation of a teen’s life in sobriety, but it will also build their character and counsel them with learning the skills they will need for a successful future.

Mental Health Group Homes

Troubled teens from North Carolina, experiencing pain medication abuse/addiction and substance abuse (including marijuana) are rarely free of additional co-occurring issues or disorders. Whether it is academic failure, behavioral trials, depression, or mental health troubles of any kind, treating one issue without treating the other inevitably hinders rehabilitation. We at Turning Winds are committed to remedying the whole person. Not only do we customize therapy according to an individual teen’s needs, but we also provide the kind of academic curriculum and therapeutic treatment options necessary for a full and complete restoration.

Restoration is key when it comes to healing, and some of the therapeutic treatments provided at our group home include basing our practices within the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) methodology. Implementing the use of CBT in treatment still allows for counselors to utilize varying theoretical schools of thought for individualized treatment plans (when necessary), however at our core, we employ a humanistic - relationship-based Rogerian approach. This type of approach focuses on a person-Image of Enthusiastic adolescents feeling encouraged at Turning Windscentered mindset, which is why Turning Winds also delivers outdoor adventure therapy experiences to help re-focus troubled teenagers and help them regain their self-confidence.

When it comes to academics, our students excel far and above conventional expectations. On average, each student at Turning Winds will complete two years of schools during their 12-month stay and maintain a 3.5 GPA. It is also not uncommon for students to raise their GPA by a full letter grade during this same period, and we believe it is our devotion to smaller class sizes and our individualized, comprehensive learning model that provides such quality results.
