Venturing is a co-ed, young adult program of the Boy Scouts of America which focuses primarily on the development of leadership skills by engaging youth in empowering experiences. Furthermore, it allows those young men who have earned at least a First Class Rank in Boy Scouts to obtain their Eagle through this inspiring program. Each Venture regardless of rank or gender will be engaged in activities which will fulfill the Range Award in Venturing Program. The core requirements for the Ranger Award consist of the following main topics: First Aid, Wilderness Survival, Emergency Preparedness, Communications, Leave No Trace, Cooking, Navigation and Conservation. For more information on the Venturing Program visit www.scouting.org/venturing/ . The Venturing Program is a privilege and students can only participate in this program if they have demonstrated the ability to maintain positive standards.
Most of our adolescents have some sense of their abilities and strengths, yet those abilities and strengths may not be exhibited due largely to a consistency of choosing unhealthy decisions which degrade the child. Venturing is empowering because troubled teens learn things about themselves that they never realized before. Also, adolescents are able to learn what it takes to become a leader and are encouraged through positive peer pressure to assume the role of leadership. "Being a leader doesn't make you one," Thomas Gordon. It is important to understand that it takes integrity, honor, respect and a number of other virtues to establish oneself as a leader.
